Context
MyGut is a health-management mobile app developed for Crohn’s & Colitis Canada to help individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) better understand and manage their condition between clinic visits. It combines daily symptom tracking with lifestyle logging, educational resources, and shared reports that patients can bring to medical appointments.

The Problem
People living with chronic conditions like Crohn’s or colitis often struggle to:
  • Capture daily symptom patterns over time
  • Understand how lifestyle factors relate to their health
  • Communicate meaningful data to clinicians before appointments
Without a structured way to record trends or generate reports, decisions during care can rely on memory rather than insights. The brief was to build a simple, supportive, and health-focused UX that encourages regular use without overwhelming users.

My Role
  • UI Lead & UX refinement — shaping visual language, screen design, and interaction flows
  • Simplification of complex health tracking — structuring distractions out of the core experience
  • Delivered polished screens that balance data visibility with calm, non-clinical aesthetics
This project needed both empathetic UX thinking and clarity in data presentation.

The Approach
We grounded the experience in three user-centric priorities:
1. Personalized dashboard first
Users land on a clean summary of their recent entries — symptoms, lifestyle logs, and suggested content — so they immediately see patterns without navigating deep menus.Crohn’s and Colitis Canada
2. Easy daily tracking
A one-tap first flow lets people log mood, symptoms, diet, sleep, and more with minimal friction. Regular tracking was encouraged through subtle visual cues and a session-state design that feels quick, not burdened.
3. Data you can act on
Health reports can be generated and shared with healthcare providers, facilitating better communication and collaborative care discussions. This means users don’t just track — they use their data meaningfully.
Throughout, visuals emphasized legibility, comfort, and approachable typography — essential when health data can feel technical.

The Outcome
The redesigned MyGut experience:
  • Helps users track trends over days, weeks, and months
  • Presents lifestyle and symptom correlations in context
  • Provides curated educational content linked to tracked patterns
  • Generates clinically useful reports for visits or email sharing
By making medical self-management more intuitive, the app supports continuous engagement and better communication with care teams.
